Former Strategist writer and editor Margaret Rhodes wrote an ode to these high-rise briefs, which she says are like “a warm embrace,” and akin to curling up with a hot-water bottle or a puppy. Part of the Elance’s magic, according to Rhodes, is that “unlike the chic — even slightly sexy — grandma-esque briefs from lines like Araks and Baserange, the plain cotton Elance leaves pretty much everything to the imagination. You don’t wear these undergarments — they wear you. More exactly, they swaddle you.”

The Pour Moi Sophia Lace Embroidered Deep Brief Panty 3828 has seamed sides, a seamless rear, keyhole at top of rear, high rise styling, cotton crotch lining, and a lace overlay at front with embroidered mesh insets at lower sides. Pour Moi's Sophia Lace Embroidered Deep Brief Panty is made of polyamide (nylon), elastane and polyester, with a cotton crotch lining.
Pantyhose have been criticized for being flimsy because the thin knit fabric is prone to tearing or laddering (or "running"). The wearer can cause a run in the hose by catching a toenail in the fabric when the hose is put on, by catching it on a rough surface like a corner of a desk, or a car, and by numerous other risks. Some women apply clear nail polish or hair spray to their hose to prevent runs from growing.
If you prefer something lacy, Hanky Panky is a classic underwear brand that remains a favorite of several of the women we talked to. When we asked Barbara Corcoran, the founder of Corcoran Group, about her favorite things, Hanky Panky’s Signature Thong made the list. “Everyone seems to wear these,” she says. “They come in every color, like 30 colors, and it’s like a lace crayon box when you open your drawer.” The thing about them, according to Corcoran, is that “they’re inexpensive and last forever.” She says she doesn’t think she’s ever thrown a pair out, and that the stretch material never gives up, despite the fact that they don’t feel like you’re wearing underwear. “I can’t say I’ve worn just these with a skirt (I need pantyhose), but they’re just great and never, never wrinkle,” Corcoran says. And if you want to stock up, Hanky Panky’s three-packs are a good option. Iva Pawling, co-founder of Richer Poorer, prefers the brand’s low-rise style, of which she has many. “I am equal parts proud and embarrassed that I have only been wearing Hanky Panky underwear for, oh, about 14 years,” she says. “I don’t have to think about them, and they just work.” For something with more coverage, costume designer Leesa Evans told us, “Hanky Panky boy shorts are so soft and comfortable, and never show a panty line.”

Adding hosiery to a lingerie outfit is one of the best ways to create a truly memorable look. The hosiery isn’t meant to cover you up; instead, it highlights some of your best features and enhances the subtly sexy curves of your legs. Even something as simple as leggings or leg warmers can really take your appearance to the next level. And you don’t have to hide these items away for use in the bedroom, either. One of the fun things about hosiery is that it’s a type of lingerie that you can also use for fashion purposes. Items like fishnet tights or thigh high stockings can be paired with dresses and skirts to add a fun detail to your ensemble. And should you decide to reveal more, your sexy hosiery will pair perfectly with your lingerie.
Hosiery is a class of tight-fitting garments worn on the legs and/or feet. For the most part, hosiery has a knit construction. So, socks, anklets, pantyhose, fishnets, nylons, leggings, tights and stockings all fall under the hosiery category. Available in different colors, textures, opacities, styles and even shapewear control levels, hosiery is a great way to transform an outfit and make a statement as well as give your legs a subtle, polished look.
Cora Harrington (a.k.a. the Lingerie Addict), the author of In Intimate Detail: How to Choose, Wear, and Love Lingerie, says that if you want something you can easily find at your local department store, Natori’s Girl Briefs are her favorite “mainstream” underwear (we heard about Harrington’s more obscure picks, too, which are further down this list). “They’re cute. They’re comfy. The Pima cotton means they’re supersoft,” she explains. “Nordstrom includes them in their annual anniversary sale, and my secret tip is to buy discontinued colorways … after all, no one cares what color your underwear is!” Dolley Frearson, co-founder and creative director of High Fashion Home, is another fan of the Natori Girl Briefs. “For everyday underwear, I need it to feel comfortable and breathable,” she says. “I also need it to appear smooth, and not pinch my skin in any place or ride up.” For Frearson, the Natori briefs check all of those boxes. “They will eventually replace almost all of your underwear in your drawer,” she promises.
For something a little more colorful, take a note from Harrington, who says her “favorite underwear brand of all time is Egretta Garzetta.” She told us that because of a nerve condition, her everyday underwear has to be made from natural fibers, and the brand’s cotton and viscose briefs have been an “absolute godsend.” And although the price is higher than, say, a pair from the Gap, the quality of these is also very high, according to Harrington. “Seriously, this is the highest-quality underwear I own,” she says. “I first purchased from this brand back in 2014, and my underwear is still holding up and looking great; no fraying, no holes, just pure cotton softness.”

^ Armytage, Marcus (October 31, 2011). "Diary: Warwick racecourse stage remembrance day for gentleman George Mernagh". The Daily Telegraph. London. Archived from the original on January 1, 2012. In American English, the term "tights" typically refers to pantyhose-like garments made from thicker material, which are generally opaque or slightly translucent. Opaque leg wear made of material such as spandex are often worn by both sexes for athletic activities or as utility clothing, and are usually referred to as "leggings", a term that includes casual wear. The primary difference between tights and leggings is that leggings can be worn as outerwear, whereas tights are not. In most cases, leggings will have a seam on the inside of the leg, whereas the legs of tights will be seamless.
In the past, lingerie was intended to help shape a woman's figure. Obviously, today's shapewear has evolved, although the basic principles are the same. Nowadays there is shapewear for all shapes and sizes, and it's designed to help women smooth their silhouettes. This is the foundation garment that keeps everything tight and smooth — unapologetically so. Control slips, modern corsets and tummy shapers are three of the options available. Full body shapers, arm shapers and shaping camis are additional pieces. Most shapers are available in black, nude and white, although you can sometimes find them in fun prints and bold colors too.
